Amirudin lauds Selangor Sultan’s Aidiladha message urging Malaysians to defend unity, uphold Rukun Negara
SHAH ALAM, May 21 — Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today expressed his gratitude for the Hari Raya Aidiladha 2026 address by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah. He said the Sultan’s message highlighted the importance of unity, harmony in Malaysia’s multiracial society, and the duty of all citizens to safeguard peace and stability in Selangor and nationwide. Amirudin noted the royal address came at a time when some quarters were exploiting racial and religious sentiments and politicising the monarchy for personal gain. He urged all parties to reject “selective loyalty” and remain consistent in defending the monarchy, religion and race. Malaysia, he said, was built on consensus, mutual respect and the rule of law, not hatred or fear. He called on Malaysians to embrace the Rukun Negara fully, stressing it was not merely ceremonial but a philosophy to be lived daily. He also reminded all sides to study the Federal Constitution sincerely, reaffirming Malaysia’s foundation as a parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy. Any attempt to distort history, incite division or question the constitutional framework for political gain, he warned, was irresponsible and dangerous to the nation’s future. “The Selangor government will continue to uphold unity, moderation and respect for the monarchy and the rule of law, as guided by His Royal Highness,” Amirudin said. “May this Aidiladha remind us that the greatest sacrifice in a diverse nation is the courage to reject hatred. National unity must be cherished and defended by every citizen.”
