“KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said the government will continue refining targeted assistance measures and other support programmes to help Malaysians cope with rising living costs while preserving economic stability. According to The Star , Anwar said Malaysia is operating in an increasingly challenging environment shaped by economic uncertainty, climate-related concerns, rapid advances in artificial intelligence and evolving geopolitical developments. He said the government would respond to these pressures through policies and measures aimed at maintaining stability and reducing the burden on the rakyat. Speaking at the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with the official birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, Anwar said efforts to address cost-of-living concerns include fiscal reforms, the targeted RON95 fuel subsidy mechanism and the Budi Madani programme. He also gave an assurance that access to healthcare and education would continue to be improved. Despite global challenges, Anwar said Malaysia’s economy remained on a positive trajectory, pointing to increased domestic and foreign investments, low unemployment and stronger confidence among international investors. He said ongoing fiscal reforms, support for small and medium enterprises, and the government’s digitalisation drive were creating more opportunities for quality jobs, particularly among younger Malaysians. On governance, Anwar said Putrajaya remained committed to strengthening democratic institutions and upholding the rule of law, in keeping with Sultan Ibrahim’s emphasis on good governance and efforts to prevent wealth from being concentrated among a select group. He said the government would continue implementing policies aimed at ensuring a fairer distribution of opportunities and development across the country, especially for poorer and marginalised communities. Anwar also expressed appreciation to Sultan Ibrahim for His Majesty’s guidance and stewardship under Malaysia’s constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy system. He said the government would continue carrying out its responsibilities with dedication under the King’s patronage, while stressing the importance of unity and loyalty among Malaysians in advancing the nation’s progress. Describing Sultan Ibrahim as a symbol of national unity and dignity, Anwar also prayed for Their Majesties to be blessed with continued good health and wisdom in carrying out their duties.
