Bahrain arrests 15 people accused of links to IRGC
Bahrain arrests 15 people accused of links to IRGC Bahrain says it has arrested 15 people accused of working for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, hours after Tehran launched attacks on the kingdom and neighbouring Kuwait. The interior ministry said investigations were continuing to identify all individuals allegedly connected to the suspected Iranian cell. The arrests come amid an ongoing security crackdown launched after Iran began attacking Bahrain in late February. Authorities have detained dozens of people accused of collaborating with Tehran. Last month, Bahrain sentenced nine people to life imprisonment for what it described as “hostile and terrorist acts” carried out in cooperation with the IRGC. In April, authorities revoked the citizenship of 69 people accused of supporting Iranian attacks on the country. Bahrain is home to a large Shia population, many of whom have long complained of political and economic marginalisation. The government denies discriminating against Shia citizens and has repeatedly accused Iran of fomenting unrest in the kingdom.
