Celebrating Safety and Health Week at McMaster

“Safety and Health Week (May 4-9, 2026) raises awareness about safety and well-being at work, at home and in the community, highlighting the shared responsibility to create a supportive and safe environment. “Building a healthy and safe campus community and workplace culture requires the collective effort of every individual,” says Saher Fazilat, vice-president, Operations and Finance. “Thank you to everyone on campus who is working to create an environment where every employee feels safe, both physically and psychologically, and knows they are supported in identifying potential risks.” The McMaster community is invited to attend the annual Safety and Health Week BBQ and Vendor Fair on Wednesday, May 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the McMaster University Student Centre (MUSC) Atrium. The Health and Safety Award of Excellence will be awarded at noon. Highlights: Learn about programs supporting health, safety and well-being Enjoy a BBQ lunch with colleagues and community members ($5, cash only) Celebrate the recipient of the 2026 Health and Safety Award of Excellence The week also recognizes the ongoing contributions of McMaster University’s 28 Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSC), whose members play a vital role in maintaining safe and healthy work and learning spaces for employees, students, and visitors. Members of the JHSC will receive a complimentary lunch in recognition of their ongoing contributions. All employees are encouraged to ensure their required health and safety training is up to date.
