Cherif and Ahmed had earlier suffered a narrow three-set defeat to American duo Taylor Crabb and Andrew Benesh in the second round after a closely fought contest that ended 21-16, 20-22, 15-11. The Qatari team had opened their campaign with a straight-sets victory over Latvia’s Bedritis and Rinkevics in the first round. Cherif and Ahmed will next face Sweden’s young duo Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson in the round of 16 on Saturday.
