Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberals introduced a new version of their online harms bill last week that will attempt to regulate the social media use of people under 16 years of age. It will also force Canadians to send sensitive personal information to sketchy websites in order to view adult content or even to connect with one another on Facebook, which raises serious privacy and censorship concerns. Yet as the Post's Jesse Kline notes in this NP Comment video, similar legislation in Australia has not stopped kids from accessing these sites. And while social media can be harmful for young people, experts generally don't recommend banning it entirely, which raises the question: is this just another example of the nanny state thinking it knows what's best for you and your family?
