However, Dr Mohd Hisham cautioned that heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms may still occur in certain areas. These include the western parts of Peninsular Malaysia, northern Sarawak, and western Sabah, particularly in the early morning hours due to the presence of squall lines. "These are squall lines that form over the Straits of Malacca and the eastern South China Sea before moving inland as a result of wind convergence. These squall lines can persist for several hours," he said. Dr Mohd Hisham noted that during the peak of the monsoon, from July to September, localised and transboundary haze could occur if open burning activities are not controlled.
