Egypt allocates EGP 10.6bn to over 45,000 beneficiaries under national veal project by April
Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has allocated approximately EGP 10.562bn to 45,686 beneficiaries under the national veal project by the end of April, supporting the rearing of nearly 529,781 head of livestock. In April alone, the ministry approved EGP 211.32m in financing for 151 beneficiaries to raise and fatten 3,022 head of livestock. The programme primarily targets small-scale breeders, young graduates, and women, particularly in villages included in the “Decent Life” initiative. The figures were outlined in a report submitted to Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk by Tarek Soliman, Head of the Livestock and Poultry Development Sector at the ministry, detailing the sector’s key activities during the month. Soliman said 940 operating licences were issued in April, covering both renewals and new permits, for livestock, poultry, and feed-related activities, as well as milk collection centres. This included 178 licences for small-scale livestock breeders. He added that 434 feed mixtures, additives, and concentrates were approved in line with scientific standards, including 238 locally registered products and 196 imported ones, in coordination with the Regional Center for Food and Feed and the Animal Production Research Institute. In parallel, 152 technical approvals were granted for the establishment of new livestock and poultry projects, in compliance with biosecurity measures and preventive distance requirements in desert hinterland areas. Soliman noted that technical support was extended to 81 feed production units across 34 factories in multiple governorates, including homogeneity testing in cooperation with the Regional Center for Food and Feed (RCFF) and local agricultural directorates. These efforts are part of preparations to license facilities that meet standard specifications and ensure optimal performance for poultry, livestock, and aquaculture production. He stressed that coordination continues with regulatory authorities to carry out intensive and unannounced inspection campaigns on feed factories, warehouses, and distribution outlets. These inspections aim to prevent hoarding and price manipulation, ensure that products in the market are properly registered and produced in licensed facilities, and verify compliance through laboratory testing of feed mixtures and raw materials, with legal action taken against violations. Soliman also highlighted the digitisation of licensing applications for livestock, poultry, and feed activities. Applications can now be submitted via the ministry’s official website, the Digital Egypt platform, and other government service applications, helping streamline procedures and improve access to services.
