Facebook ‘buyers’ flee with Ford Ranger after test drive in Tampin, crash into SUV during getaway (VIDEO)
KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 — Two men made off with a Ford Ranger after allegedly pretending to be buyers during a test drive in Gemencheh, Tampin, on Thursday — before crashing into another vehicle as they sped away. The suspects are believed to have contacted the 42-year-old owner after spotting his Facebook advertisement for the black Ford Ranger Raptor. Tampin police chief Superintendent Amiruddien Sariman said the pair arrived at about 5.50pm in a dark-coloured Mini Cooper Cross to inspect and test-drive the pickup truck. “The suspect contacted the complainant and said he wanted to buy the 4x4 advertised on Facebook,” Amiruddien said in a statement today. But moments after the test drive ended and the owner stepped out of the vehicle, one of the suspects suddenly floored the accelerator and fled with the 4x4. Amiruddien said the stolen vehicle was identified as a black Ford Ranger 2.0L Raptor, with estimated losses amounting to RM100,000. Checks later found the Mini Cooper’s registration number to be fake, he added. A video uploaded on Threads allegedly showed the stolen pickup ploughing into a multi-purpose vehicle while escaping, sending the MPV spinning before it swerved onto the road shoulder. Police received a report over the incident at about 8.45pm yesterday. Members of the public with information have been urged to contact the Tampin district police headquarters hotline at 06-4431999 or the nearest police station.
