Foreign ministry warns travelers of strict overseas e-cigarette regulations
The foreign ministry on Wednesday urged Korean travelers to exercise caution when carrying e-cigarettes overseas amid strict regulations in various countries. The ministry issued the warning regarding carrying or possession of e-cigarettes overseas, citing incidents of arrests or fines involving Korean travelers for either bringing or possessing such products. Importing or use of e-cigarettes may be subject to criminal charges in around 40 countries, including Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, India, Australia, Mexico, Taiwan and Laos, according to the ministry. Travelers who conceal possession of e-cigarettes or provide false statements during baggage inspections at airports could face smuggling charges in some countries as well. The ministry advised travelers to check overseas regulations through Korean diplomatic missions before departure, noting that local rules can change frequently.
