Germany positions navy for possible Strait of Hormuz deployment: Report
Germany positions navy for possible Strait of Hormuz deployment: Report Germany is moving naval assets closer to the Middle East as it prepares to intervene in the Israeli-US war on Iran. The German defence ministry said the minesweeper Fulda has departed from Kiel, while the support vessel Mosel, currently in the Aegean Sea, is being readied for possible redeployment in the Strait of Hormuz. The government said any mission would require a sustained halt in fighting, a clear legal mandate and approval from parliament. “The Federal Government is willing to make a significant and visible contribution within an international coalition to protect freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” the ministry said. It added that the objective is to ensure the waterway “is once again safe for navigation in the near future”. France and the United Kingdom are also preparing for a possible joint naval operation in the area once hostilities ease, as western allies coordinate their response to rising tensions.
