“Gulf states must compensate Iran for war damages, envoy tells UN Iran’s UN ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani said several Gulf governments should be held internationally responsible for their alleged role in facilitating aggression against Iran and must compensate Tehran for resulting damages. In a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Security Council, Iravani rejected what he described as “baseless claims” made by countries on the southern side of the Persian Gulf and criticised recent statements by US officials. The letter mentioned Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, accusing them of participating in or facilitating actions against Iran. Iravani argued that these countries were obligated under international law to provide full compensation for material and moral damages allegedly suffered by the Islamic Republic as a result of their actions.
