Higher Education Ministry: UPUOnline offers places to more than 169,000 SPM leavers for 2026 intake

“PUTRAJAYA, May 22 — A total of 169,803 students who sat for the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination have been offered places at public higher education institutions (IPTA) through UPUOnline. The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) said of the total, 91,357 candidates received offers from public universities, 60,947 from polytechnics, 15,844 from community colleges and 1,655 from institutions under Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Higher Education Division. In a statement today, MOHE said it received 235,480 eligible applications from SPM school leavers through UPUOnline this year. “A total of 363 programmes were offered for this intake, comprising 41 certificate programmes, 57 foundation programmes, 264 diploma programmes and one bachelor’s degree programme. “Admissions were based on the meritocracy principle, with eligible candidates ranked according to merit scores from highest to lowest,” read the statement. The ministry also provided special pathways for 701 persons with disabilities, 310 Orang Asli candidates, 179 athletes, 10,499 candidates from the B40 group and 65 candidates from institutions under the Social Welfare Department (JKM). “For the first time, all academic programmes are open to persons with disabilities based on their qualifications and suitability, as part of efforts to make higher education more inclusive and accessible,” the statement said. The ministry also offered places to students who obtained excellent results of 8As and above, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting outstanding students in pursuing higher education. Candidates who did not receive offers may submit appeals through UPUOnline from today until 5 pm on May 31, 2026.
