Indiana State Senate District 46 primary election: Polls are open
Sign up for Chalkbeat Indiana’s free daily newsletter to keep up with Indianapolis Public Schools, Marion County’s township districts, and statewide education news. Polls are open for Indiana’s primary election including one race that could tee up a vacancy on the Indianapolis Public Schools board. IPS board member Allissa Impink is a candidate in the Democratic primary for Indiana State Senate District 46 , along with Sam Glynn and Clif Marsiglio. No Republican candidates are running in the primary election for the seat representing downtown, the near eastside, and southern parts of Indianapolis. If Impink wins the primary and then the general election, it would create an opening on the IPS school board because Impink’s current term on the school board ends in 2028. Board members would appoint a new member to finish Impink’s term, and the seat would be up for election that year. Board members recently used the same process to fill the District 2 seat after Gayle Cosby announced her resignation in March. The board appointed Hasaan Rashid to fill the vacancy. State Senate District 46 is currently represented by Andrea Hunley, a former IPS principal, who is running for Indianapolis mayor in 2027 . Four seats on the IPS school board are up for election in November: Hope Duke Star’s District 3 seat, Nicole Carey’s District 5 seat, Angelia Moore’s at-large seat, and the special election for District 2 represented by Rashid.
