Interview: Danielle Smith’s high stakes plan to save Alberta — and Canada
The stakes have been raised ahead of Alberta's scheduled referendum, as the ballot will now include a question on the province's relationship with Canada and future in Confederation. In this interview with Rob Breakenridge, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith defends her decision to put this question on the ballot as well as her efforts to make the case for Canada and to give Albertans hope that the status quo can be improved. Despite that, though, the Alberta government is challenging the court decision that blocked separatist efforts to trigger a binding separation question — a move Smith says is a necessary defence of some important legal and constitutional principles. We'll hear more from Smith about where things stand with the pipeline MOU with the federal government and how close we are to a formal proposal being submitted to the Major Projects Office, all of which is central to her message that a better relationship with Ottawa is possible. Plus, the premier details her recent announcement of a panel to examine the costs of Alberta separation. Watch the full video directly below. Read More
