Iran says framework for US war-ending deal nearing completion
Iran says framework for US war-ending deal nearing completion Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran is in the final stages of drafting a framework agreement aimed at ending the war with the United States. Speaking to state broadcaster IRIB on Saturday, Baqaei said the proposed memorandum of understanding would consist of 14 clauses and could pave the way for a final agreement within 30 to 60 days. “Our intention was first to draft a memorandum of understanding, a kind of framework agreement composed of 14 clauses,” he said. Baqaei said the proposal addresses issues including the Strait of Hormuz and what he described as “US piracy against international navigation”. He added that Iran sees “a trend towards rapprochement” with Washington, though this did not necessarily mean the two sides would ultimately reach agreement on key disputes. “At this stage, we will not discuss the details of the nuclear issue,” he said, adding that Tehran was prioritising “ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon”. According to Baqaei, Iran’s nuclear programme would be addressed in separate negotiations at a later stage.
