“Israeli settler filmed throwing concrete block at cats days after dog beating Submitted by Mera Aladam on Tue, 05/19/2026 - 07:29 Latest incident highlights growing settler violence against animals in the occupied West Bank An Israeli settler stands outside the Palestinian village of Battir in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on 12 February, 2026 (Ilia Yefimovich/AFP) Off An Israeli settler was filmed attacking cats in the occupied West Bank on Monday, days after another settler was filmed brutally beating a dog in the same area. In footage shared online, the settler is seen picking up a concrete block and hurling it at two cats during an Israeli army raid on the town of Atara, north of Ramallah. Days earlier, a dog belonging to a Palestinian family in the town was also attacked by a settler. Video of the incident shows the settler repeatedly beating the chained dog with wooden sticks while another chained dog barks nearby. The dog, named Lucy, had been raised by the family for around 18 months. She suffered severe injuries and was taken for treatment. According to Haaretz, her condition has since stabilised. The Palestinian owner, who requested anonymity for fear of reprisals, said the dog had been tied up for guarding purposes and posed no threat. "She wasn't loose, she didn't attack him or bite him," he told Haaretz. "He attacked a tied-up dog." "There was severe bleeding from her eyes and her head was literally crushed,” a veterinarian told the newspaper. “She was almost unconscious. Under the Oslo Accords, the occupied West Bank was divided into Areas A, B and C. Area A, which covers around 21 percent of the territory, falls under full Palestinian civil and security control. Area B, comprising roughly 18 percent, is under Palestinian civil administration and Israeli security control. Israel retains full control over Area C, which makes up more than 60 percent of the West Bank. Violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians has long been a feature of the occupied West Bank, but it has intensified sharply since the genocide on Gaza began in 2023. Abuse by settlers against Palestinian-owned animals has also increased, with footage and testimonies documenting beatings, killings and poisonings. Rights groups and Palestinian residents have also reported the theft of large herds of livestock by settlers, describing it as part of a wider effort to intimidate Palestinians into leaving their homes, land and farms.
