“Katie Lynch has been elected as the new Chairperson of Trinity Sport Union (TSU) after the Annual General Meeting took place last week. Lynch takes over from Jane Prendergast in the sabbatical role, where she will oversee the operations of the Union and the sporting clubs within Trinity College. Her executive committee will be Aisling Mulligan as Vice-Chairperson, Carmel Maher as Honorary Secretary, and Sam Ledoux as Junior Treasurer. Lynch is the current Women’s Captain of Trinity Fencing and is a postgraduate student of the College, and ran against John O’Hara of DU Men’s Hockey. During her speech for the role, she highlighted the importance of female participation and inclusion in sport and her involvement with the LeadHer campaign, which sought to build leadership skills for female athletes. At the recent Trinity Sports Awards, she won the prize for Women in Sport Champion, demonstrating her dedication to athletic involvement in Trinity. The position will see her at the head of the executive committee, overseeing communication with TCDSU and the leadership of the College, as well as The Pavilion Bar, which falls under the TSU remit. Aisling Mulligan will take over as Vice-Chairperson of the Union. She is a member of Trinity Ladies Hockey Club and is the incoming Club Captain, having served as both Public Relations Officer and Social Secretary. Mulligan delivered a strong and confident speech, detailing her experience on the visibility sub-committee of the TSU during her tenure as a Club Representative last year. This experience will serve her commitment to increasing the online presence of the Union. On being elected, she commented, “I’m just excited to get started and to work with the new committee”. She went on to say, “I know the direction that we want to aim to be in”, highlighting her former involvement with the Union. Elected as Honorary Secretary is Carmel Maher, who is part of Trinity College GAA Club. She served as Co-Captain this year and was elected over Dublin University Hockey Club’s Angus Seigne. She pledged to ensure focused meetings of the Union take place, as well as introducing a weekly newsletter to ensure transparency and improve communication between the clubs and the Union. Sam Ledoux of Trinity Sailing was reelected as Junior Treasurer. Ledoux ran unopposed and will continue to work with the committee on budget allocation and oversee the financing of TSU The new Club Representatives are as follows: Edward Collins (DUHC), Oisin Hughes (DU Sailing, Molly Mostow (DU Ladies Boat), Tom Leahy (DU Boat), Tatiana Najera (DU Swim and Waterpolo), Aoife Nixon (DUFC Women), Beatrice Wharton-Hood (DULHC), Anna Whelan (DU Ladies Cricket and DU Ladies Boat). The representatives are responsible for communicating club concerns and participating in subcommittees.
