Madani Mediation Centre to launch May 18, offers free dispute resolution for claims under RM250,000
PUTRAJAYA, May 13 — The government’s new Madani Mediation Centre initiative will be officially launched on May 18 in Kuala Lumpur, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced today. Fahmi said the initiative falls under the Prime Minister’s Department and is overseen by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. He described the Madani Mediation Centre as a pro bono commercial mediation service aimed at helping resolve disputes involving claims below RM250,000 without going through lengthy court proceedings. “In general, Mediasi Madani is a pro bono initiative involving commercial mediation,” he said after the weekly Cabinet meeting. “At the moment, there are more than 170 qualified mediators.” Fahmi said the initiative is intended to improve access to alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and reduce the burden of legal costs for the public and small businesses. He added that the official launch ceremony will take place in Kuala Lumpur this Sunday and will be officiated by Azalina.
