“ALOR SETAR, May 29 — A man is feared to have drowned after he tried to retrieve a jetski that drifted off in the waters near Langkawi today. Langkawi Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Fire Supt Mohd Zamri Abdul Ghani said they received a call about the incident at 9 pm and a team of five firefighters from the Persiaran Putra Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the location about 22 minutes later. “As soon as they arrived, they learned that the victim, Arash Nashran Abdul Maser, 23, had gone missing in the sea about 100 metres from the beach. “He was trying to retrieve a jetski that drifted to the sea and strong waves caused him to be thrown into the water. It is understood that he wasn’t wearing a life jacket at the time,” he said in a statement yesterday. The victim has yet to be found, even though the firefighters have been doing preliminary observation work along the shoreline with the public. “The water rescue team will begin search and rescue operations tomorrow morning to locate the victim,” he added. — Bernama
