Man, 67, remanded in Batu Pahat over alleged rape of 13-year-old granddaughter
KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 — A 67-year-old man has reportedly been remanded for six days in Batu Pahat on suspicion of raping his 13-year-old granddaughter last year. According to Utusan Malaysia , Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed that police had arrested the elderly suspect, who is now under remand. The remand order was issued by Magistrate Arun Noval Dass to allow police to complete investigations under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code. Police reportedly received a report two days ago after the victim told her mother about the alleged abuse. Initial investigations found that the teenager had been living with her grandfather in Batu Pahat after her parents divorced, before her mother brought her to a northern state in April. Utusan Malaysia reported that the alleged abuse came to light after the victim’s mother noticed a message sent by the teenager to an acquaintance, with the last incident believed to have taken place in December last year.
