At 8 a.m. on Friday, March 20, the cohortwilljoin thousands of peers across the nation in observing Match Day, an annual ceremony at which future physicians publicly open envelopes revealing what U.S. hospitals they have been “matched” to for continuation of their medical training and their first jobs as doctors. BACKGROUND: At the traditional UC Irvine School of Medicine Match Day event, graduating medical students – one at a time onstage – open sealed envelopes revealing their residency placements to cheers, hugs and tears from family members and classmates in the audience.
