More than 5,000 join Niti Daun parade for Bintulu Gawai Dayak celebration
BINTULU, May 17 — A total of 73 contingents comprising more than 5,000 participants took part in the ‘Niti Daun’ parade at the esplanade here yesterday, held in conjunction with the Bintulu Division Gawai Dayak 2026 celebration. The Public Works Department (JKR) Bintulu Division, as the main organiser, said the annual event highlighted the spirit of unity among Bintulu’s diverse communities. “The parade showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Dayak community through traditional attire, ethnic music and cultural performances,” the department said, attributing the event’s success to the support of various government agencies, non-governmental organisations and local communities. The parade was flagged off by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development and Samalaju assemblyman Datuk Majang Renggi. “Apart from celebrating Gawai Dayak, the programme also serves as a platform to strengthen harmony, goodwill and ties among communities in the division,” added JKR Bintulu. Also present were Bintulu Resident Datu Nyurak Keti, Bintulu District officer Awang Mohammed Nizam Awang Ali Bohan, and JKR Bintulu divisional engineer Lau Sie Hung. — The Borneo Post
