“Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) is stepping up cooperation with universities to equip young people with the skills needed to launch their own businesses, as part of broader efforts to promote a culture of entrepreneurship and self-employment. Bassel Rahmy, MSMEDA’s Chief Executive, affirmed the agency’s ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and its collaboration with Egyptian universities to encourage graduates to establish projects that contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic development. He noted that these efforts align with MSMEDA’s core role in building youth capacities and supporting innovative ideas. Rahmy’s remarks came during a meeting with the student initiative “Rokaz”, led by final-year students at the Cairo University Faculty of Mass Communication. The initiative aims to raise awareness among young people about self-employment and highlight the economic potential of small and micro enterprises, particularly in productive sectors. The name “Rokaz” reflects the idea that Egyptian industry forms the cornerstone of economic development. He expressed MSMEDA’s strong support for youth-led initiatives, noting that the agency is ready to provide financial and technical services to participants in Rokaz’s seminars and media activities. Rahmy added that such initiatives align with MSMEDA’s strategy to encourage graduates to establish small and medium-sized enterprises across productive and industrial sectors, enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian products, and promote a shift towards locally manufactured goods—supporting small business growth and generating sustainable employment. The MSMEDA chief also highlighted cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education as a model of effective institutional integration. He noted that the partnership has expanded through around 25 cooperation protocols with universities across various governorates, in coordination with the Supreme Council of Universities, helping to embed entrepreneurship concepts and development objectives across academic institutions. In a related context, MSMEDA participated, through a high-level delegation headed by Deputy Chief Executive Mohamed Medhat, in the “Commercial Banking Simulation and Entrepreneurship” day held at the Culture and Science City. The event aimed to strengthen the culture of self-employment, bridge academic learning with the realities of banking and development sectors, and provide graduates with practical exposure to encourage them to benefit from MSMEDA’s services and launch their own ventures. The agency also took part in a special edition of an international forum organised by Senghor University, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and the ICEALEX under the theme “The Future Belongs to Africa 2026”. This participation reflects MSMEDA’s vision of empowering Egyptian youth to access African markets and supporting innovation to keep pace with rapid digital transformation in the labour market. Separately, MSMEDA continues to offer an integrated package of technical and training services through awareness seminars and specialised programmes, including the “Business Simulation Game”, targeting final-year students to support their future ventures and help them select projects suited to their skills and available investment opportunities. These efforts are being implemented in close cooperation with Ain Shams University, as part of a joint protocol aimed at embedding a culture of entrepreneurship and preparing students for labour market demands.
