MELAKA, June 4 — The suspect in a murder case involving the discovery of a decomposed body wrapped in a mattress with his hands tied in a shophouse in the Pokok Mangga area here has been remanded for another seven days starting today. Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the remand period of the suspect, a 40-year-old local man, has been extended to assist in the investigation into the case. “Police are still awaiting instructions from the public prosecutor’s office for further action,” he said in a statement here today. Previously, the media reported that a decomposed body with both hands tied, wrapped in a mattress, was found in a shophouse in Pokok Mangga on May 28. The body was reported to be in a decomposed state, believed to have died for more than two weeks to a month and the body was reportedly found by the owner of the premises, after he came to inspect the shophouse because he failed to contact his tenant. Following the incident, police arrested a 40-year-old man to assist in further investigations into the case, which is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. — Bernama
