Negeri Sembilan closes Ulu Bendul Bendul Eco Park till May 24 over suspected leptospirosis scare
SEREMBAN, May 13 — The Ulu Bendul Forest Eco Park in Kuala Pilah has been temporarily closed to all activities until May 24 following reports of suspected leptospirosis, or rat urine disease, cases in the area. Negeri Sembilan Forestry Department director Mohd Yussainy Md Yusop said the closure would allow sanitation, thorough cleaning and water quality monitoring to be carried out to ensure visitors’ safety. “[On Monday], we received a report from the Kuala Pilah District Health Office on two suspected leptospirosis cases linked to the recreational area. “As such, the public is prohibited from entering the area during the closure period and those who fail to comply may face action under existing regulations. Public safety and health remain our priority,” he told Bernama here yesterday. He also advised individuals and organisations with prior bookings for chalets or campsites at the eco park to remain cautious and avoid river areas. Mohd Yussainy said all water activities at the eco park are prohibited throughout the closure period. “Other water recreation areas remain open as usual and visitors are advised to maintain cleanliness and avoid littering food waste, as we do not want other recreational areas to be affected. Let us all work together to keep the environment clean,” he said. Meanwhile, State Health deputy director (Public Health) Dr Suriyati Abd Aziz said further investigations are ongoing and any developments will be announced later. Earlier, claims went viral on social media alleging that several visitors suffered vomiting and diarrhoea after bathing at the recreational park. — Bernama
