NUS-ISS and CII forge strategic partnership to advance AI governance and digital leadership in India
In a significant step towards strengthening digital leadership and responsible AI capabilities in India, NUS-ISS has inked a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at the CII Annual Business Summit 2026 in New Delhi on Monday, 11 May. The MOU was signed by Mr Khoong Chan Meng, CEO, NUS-ISS, and Mr Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII, and exchanged in the presence of Shri N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh; HE Simon Wong, Singapore’s High Commissioner to India; Mr Rajiv Memani, President, CII; and Dr Suchitra Ella, Vice-President, CII. Against the backdrop of one of India’s largest business summits, the partnership reflected the growing momentum between Singapore and India in advancing responsible AI adoption and leadership development. Under the collaboration, CII and NUS-ISS will jointly deliver the “Leadership Programme on Artificial Intelligence and Governance”, an executive education certification programme designed for board members, CXOs, and senior decision-makers navigating the fast-changing digital economy. The programme focuses on areas such as AI governance, cybersecurity, digital transformation, innovation leadership, and emerging technologies. This partnership was made possible by the strong success of three pilot runs conducted at NUS-ISS in Singapore between 2024 and 2025, which trained more than 65 Indian industry executives. Building on the positive outcomes and momentum generated from these programmes, both organisations have now formalised and expanded the collaboration through a half-yearly programme planned across 2026 to 2028. Mr Chandrajit Banerjee, Director-General, CII, said the collaboration comes at a critical moment as industries accelerate digital transformation efforts. “India’s growth journey will increasingly be shaped by how effectively industry leaders embrace digital transformation and AI-led innovation,” Mr Banerjee said. “CII’s collaboration with NUS-ISS is an important step towards building leadership capacity in emerging technologies and governance frameworks.” He added that there are plans to train over 100 executives by the end of 2026. He also noted that the collaboration complements the “Digitalisation” and “Skilling” pillars under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Singapore. Mr Khoong Chan Meng, CEO of NUS-ISS, highlighted the importance of equipping leaders not only with technical understanding but also the ability to govern and lead responsibly in an AI-driven future. “This partnership with CII reflects our shared commitment to building future-ready leadership capabilities for the industry,” he said. “As AI rapidly reshapes businesses and economies, leaders must understand both the opportunities and governance implications of AI adoption.” Beyond the signing ceremony, Mr Khoong also spoke at a plenary session titled “India’s Deep Tech Breakthrough: R&D, Industry – Academia & Higher Education in Action”. Held as part of the summit that drew more than 7,000 registrants , the session brought together leaders from government, research, investment, academia, and industry to discuss the importance of strengthening private sector participation in R&D while preparing the workforce for emerging technologies and AI-driven transformation. He also shared perspectives on uplifting digital and AI maturity through workforce transformation, capability development, and industry-driven learning approaches to unlock greater business and societal impact. This partnership with CII India marks another step in NUS-ISS’ growing international collaborations and its continued role in shaping digital leadership capabilities across the region. Beyond the executive education programme, both organisations will also explore broader opportunities in specialised training, capability development, and knowledge exchange initiatives between India and Singapore.
