PM Anwar praises Pakistan’s role in Iran-US talks, backs peaceful diplomacy on West Asia
KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 — Malaysia appreciates Pakistan’s role in the ongoing mediation efforts involving negotiations between Iran and the United States, including the country’s willingness to host the next round of talks. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the matter was discussed during a telephone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart, Shehbaz Sharif, yesterday, adding that they also touched on various regional developments and efforts to strengthen Malaysia-Pakistan bilateral relations. “During the telephone conversation with my Pakistani counterpart, Shehbaz Sharif, we discussed various regional developments and efforts to strengthen the longstanding Malaysia-Pakistan bilateral relations. “I also conveyed Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladha greetings to him and the people of Pakistan, with the hope that the spirit of sacrifice and brotherhood will continue to strengthen the peace and prosperity of the ummah,” Anwar posted on Facebook yesterday. Anwar added that he and Shehbaz also touched on the positive developments in negotiations between Iran and the United States, including discussions related to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which is very important for regional trade stability and security. “In this regard, Malaysia remains steadfast in its view that all disputes must be resolved through dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful approaches to ensure the stability of the West Asian region,” he said. Anwar said that he and Shehbaz also discussed the importance of the international community speaking out and taking firm measures to stop Israel’s violence and atrocities against civilians in Gaza and Lebanon. “Insya-Allah, relations between Malaysia and Pakistan will continue to be strengthened based on the spirit of friendship, mutual respect and a shared commitment to global peace and prosperity,” he added. — Bernama
