PM, Iran, Swiss FMs mull Pak mediation
HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani received a phone call yesterday from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Both sides discussed Pakistani mediation efforts between the US and Iran, as well as the latest developments in Lebanon. The prime minister reaffirmed Qatar's full support for efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement to resolve the crisis, stressing the need for all parties to engage constructively to achieve lasting peace and regional stability. He also emphasised that freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle that cannot be compromised, warning that closing or using the Strait of Hormuz as a pressure tool would only deepen the crisis and endanger the vital interests of states in the region. The prime minister also received a telephone call from Swiss Confederation's Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Ignazio Cassis. The conversation addressed advancing bilateral co-operation between the two countries as well as Pakistan-led mediation efforts between the US and tIran. In addition, they spoke about coordinating efforts to back mediation aimed at de-escalation, thereby helping reinforce security and stability in the region. The prime pinister underscored the importance of all parties responding constructively to the ongoing mediation efforts to address the root causes of the crisis through diplomacy and lead to sustainable peace.
