Selangor to expand Selgate facilities to strengthen public health ecosystem, says Amirudin
RAWANG, May 22 — The construction of a network of hospitals under the Selgate Healthcare (SELGATE) group is a creative strategy based on ‘entrepreneur state’ to strengthen an inclusive and sustainable public health ecosystem in Selangor. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the official opening of Selgate Specialist Hospital Rawang (SSH Rawang) today is able to meet the demand for specialist services in the northern corridor of Selangor which is currently recording rapid population growth. He said the 224-bed hospital would not only meet the needs of private healthcare, but also be part of the state government’s efforts to expand health benefits to the people. “Hospitals like Selgate will complement the needs... we are not only focused on the factor of making profits from this health activity or health business but also returning it to the people through the services provided,” he said when speaking at the opening of SSH Rawang here, today. He said the profits generated from the private medical sector would be channeled back to the people through various existing health welfare programmes such as Iltizam Selangor Sihat (ISS) and Selangor Saring. Meanwhile, Amirudin said Selangor is now a leader in realising the ‘Care Economy’ which now has a complete ecosystem at the state level. “Selangor is the only state that already has and is developing the Care Economy ecosystem which was previously only dreamed of on paper,” he said. Regarding future plans, Amirudin said SELGATE is targeting the opening of a second hospital in Sepang in September 2026, followed by Selgate Specialist Hospital Setia Alam in February 2027 to strengthen access to quality healthcare throughout the state. The hospital is also scheduled to support the development of Integrated Cardiac Services with UiTM Sungai Buloh by the end of 2026 through state-of-the-art facilities including a Cath Lab for faster heart treatment. — Bernama
