“MAKKAH, May 14 — The number of Malaysian pilgrims who have died in the Holy Land during this year’s Haj season has risen to five following two additional deaths involving pilgrims from flight group KT12. In a statement today, Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) said both pilgrims, who were staying at Al Kiswah Hotel, died on Monday and Wednesday respectively. The statement said a 72-year-old woman from Sitiawan, Perak who travelled to the Holy Land with her cousin to perform the Haj pilgrimage, died on Monday. “She was pronounced dead at King Abdul Aziz Hospital on Monday (May 12) at about 12.36pm due to a brain haemorrhage,” read the statement. Meanwhile, a 67-year-old male pilgrim from Kuantan, Pahang who performed the pilgrimage with his wife, died on Wednesday. He died at the Makkah Medical Centre at about 10pm due to a lung infection. Both bodies were taken to the Grand Mosque for funeral prayers after documentation procedures were completed and later laid to rest at Al Sharayea Cemetery. “TH also extends its condolences to the families of the deceased and prays that their souls will be blessed and placed among the faithful,” the statement added. — Bernama
