“PENAMPANG, May 8 — Police have arrested a suspect believed to be involved in the assault of a foreign teenage girl who was found seriously injured in a bathroom at a house in Kampung Tuntuluk, Nosoob, here yesterday afternoon. Penampang police chief Supt Sammy Newton said the 29-year-old foreign national suspect was arrested in a bush area by the roadside in Pekan Kinarut Lama, Papar, at about 5.50 pm yesterday. “The suspect does not possess any identification documents and an initial urine screening test found him positive for methamphetamine,” he said in a statement here last night. Sammy said preliminary investigations found that the victim had been at home with her young nephew when the suspect arrived to meet the victim’s sister-in-law over an outstanding payment for plumbing work. He said the victim was holding a knife while preparing food in the kitchen when the suspect allegedly became enraged after she uttered harsh words towards him. “The suspect allegedly grabbed the knife from the victim before slashing her neck and pushing her against the bathroom wall, causing injuries to her head and neck,” he said. Sammy said the suspect fled the scene after the incident and the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. He said the victim is currently in stable condition but suffered serious injuries, including slash wounds to the neck and a wound on the left side of her head. — Bernama
