“Three researchers from the College of Design and Engineering at NUS were presented with the 2026 Robert Brown Promising Researcher Award by the Ministry of Education (MOE). These outstanding scientists are: Assistant Professor Jin Yueming from the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering , Assistant Professor Wang Lei from the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering , and Assistant Professor Pearl Li Yuzhu from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering . Asst Prof Jin was awarded for her project, “AI-AR-Enabled Navigation Platform for Clinical Treatment”, which leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality to enhance precision in clinical procedures. Asst Prof Wang received the award for his project on AI-driven electrochemical diagnosis for sustainable catalysis, where AI and electrochemical sensing are deployed to improve real-time understanding of catalytic reactions. Asst Prof Li was recognised for her project, “MAPS – Modelling microplAstic Pollutant transport and fate in tropical coaStal environments”, which studies how microplastics move through tropical coastal systems and contribute to more resilient coastal and marine environments. Named after Dr Robert Brown, the founding Chairman of MOE’s Academic Research Council, the award reflects the council’s ongoing efforts since 2006 to steer Singapore’s research direction and develop its Autonomous Universities into world-class research institutions.
