“SHAH ALAM, May 21 — A total of 59 police reports have been lodged nationwide against former Damansara MP Tony Pua following a Facebook post alleged to have raised sensitive issues involving Malaysia’s constitutional monarchy and the Rukun Negara. Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the investigation will be carried out by Selangor police, and Pua will be called in soon, according to Bernama. “As of this morning, I was briefed that 59 reports have been filed nationwide, with investigations led by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Selangor,” he told reporters at a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters today. Yesterday, Bernama reported that police had opened an investigation paper against Pua over the Facebook post, which was alleged to have touched on sensitive matters relating to the constitutional monarchy and the Rukun Negara. Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said the probe is being conducted under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, concerning statements likely to cause public mischief, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. The DAP disciplinary committee chairman was reported to have stated that Malaysia practises a constitutional monarchy, where the powers of the monarch are generally limited to specific areas. The statement is believed to have been issued following a decree by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who suggested that Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki and former Selangor executive councillor Ronnie Liu attend weekly sessions at Dataran Selangor to better understand and appreciate the meaning of the Rukun Negara.
