“KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 — Tunku Zain Al-’Abidin Tuanku Muhriz has reportedly been proclaimed the new Tunku Panglima Besar of Negeri Sembilan, replacing Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar with immediate effect. According to Free Malaysia Today , the proclamation was made by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, during a ceremony at the Balairong Seri of Istana Besar Seri Menanti in Kuala Pilah. The ceremony, reportedly held according to Negeri Sembilan royal customs, saw Tunku Zain receive his instrument of appointment after the Orang Empat Istana sought consent for the proceedings to begin. Also present were Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and his wife, state executive councillors, traditional leaders and community representatives. FMT reported that in a statement, Pengelola Bijaya Diraja of the Negeri Sembilan Palace Datuk Azizi Mohamad Ali said Tuanku Muhriz was confident Tunku Zain, 44, would help uphold the sovereignty of the state’s royal institution and safeguard the interests of Negeri Sembilan and its people. The title reportedly became vacant after Tunku Nadzaruddin ceased to hold it, following his acceptance of a proclamation as the 12th Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan at an event in Alor Gajah, Melaka, on June 5. According to Istana Besar Seri Menanti, the June 5 proclamation was invalid and not recognised under the Constitution, laws and customs of Negeri Sembilan, while Tunku Nadzaruddin’s acceptance of it caused the Tunku Panglima Besar title to become vacant.
