Umno opens general assembly today, runs until July 12
KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 — The Umno Annual General Assembly, bringing together delegates from its divisions and Women’s, Youth and Puteri wings nationwide, will be held from today until July 12. Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the assembly would serve as a platform to strengthen the party’s ranks and renew its commitment to the party, the people and the nation. Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister and Rural and Regional Development Minister, said this year’s assembly takes place amid an increasingly challenging global environment marked by economic pressures, rapid technological change and various social challenges that require Umno to think ahead and offer the best solutions to the people. “At 80 years old, Umno cannot rely solely on its history and legacy. The future requires the courage to change, the wisdom to adapt and the determination to remain relevant in meeting the people’s expectations. “As such, I hope this year’s assembly will serve as a platform to strengthen the Rumah Bangsa agenda and Musyawarah Nasional initiative, enabling us to unify our thinking, strengthen national institutions and foster broader cooperation for the benefit of Malaysia,” he said. He also called on all delegates to make full use of the assembly by engaging constructively, expressing their views with maturity and always placing the interests of the party and the people above all else. “InsyaAllah, Umno will continue to be a platform trusted by the people and remain an important force in the nation’s development. I wish all Umno members a fruitful assembly. Bersatu (United), Bersetia (Loyal), Berkhidmat (To Serve). Long live Umno,” he said. — Bernama
