US denies Iranian claim of strike on Fifth Fleet headquarters
US denies Iranian claim of strike on Fifth Fleet headquarters US Central Command (Centcom) rejected claims by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that Iran had struck the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet or other American bases in the region, describing the assertions as false. In a statement, Centcom said it carried out “self-defence strikes” against an Iranian military ground control station on Qeshm Island. The command also said US forces had successfully thwarted Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks across the Middle East, including shooting down three drones launched towards civilian ships in territorial waters. Earlier, the IRGC said that it responded to American attacks by targeting a US base in the region. "We targeted the US Fifth Fleet headquarters with missiles and drones in response to the attack on Qeshm Island," it said.
