US energy secretary says China likely to buy more American oil US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said he expects China to increase its purchases of US crude oil during the US-Israeli war on Iran. “They’ll continue to buy, I think, growing amounts of US oil,” Wright said in an interview with CNBC. “But ultimately, the world needs to get the Persian Gulf open. Iran’s attempt to hold the whole world hostage, people know it’s temporary.” Asked how quickly conditions could return to normal, Wright said: “A lot of that’s up to Iran.” “One way or the other, we will see an end to the Iranian nuclear programme and we will see free flow of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. That can happen relatively rapidly with an agreement with Iran,” he said.
