US sanctions target firms tied to Iran drone supply network
US sanctions target firms tied to Iran drone supply network The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on 10 individuals and companies accused of helping Iran’s military obtain weapons and materials used in the production of Shahed drones. Officials said several of the sanctioned entities are based in China and Hong Kong and are linked to supply chains supporting Tehran’s drone programme. The move comes as diplomatic efforts to end the war with Iran remain stalled and ahead of a planned visit by US President Donald Trump to China for talks with Xi Jinping. In a statement, the Treasury said it would continue targeting Iran’s military-industrial network to limit its ability to rebuild production and extend its influence beyond its borders. The department also warned it is prepared to take action against foreign firms involved in what it described as illicit trade with Iran, including airlines, and could impose secondary sanctions on financial institutions that support such activities. This includes entities linked to China’s independent “teapot” oil refineries, which Washington says play a role in facilitating Iranian commerce. “Under President Trump’s decisive leadership, we will continue to act to Keep America Safe and target foreign individuals and companies providing Iran’s military with weapons for use against U.S. forces,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.
