US says it intercepted Iranian attacks, launched strikes in Hormuz
US says it intercepted Iranian attacks, launched strikes in Hormuz The US Central Command says American forces intercepted what it described as Iranian attacks and carried out retaliatory strikes while naval vessels moved through the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. In a statement, Centcom said Iranian forces launched a coordinated assault using “multiple missiles, drones and small boats” as US Navy destroyers USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta and USS Mason transited the waterway towards the Gulf of Oman. Officials said “no US assets were struck” during the encounter. Centcom said its forces responded with “self-defense strikes”, targeting sites it identified as responsible for the attacks. The command said it hit missile and drone launch positions, command centres and intelligence infrastructure. “Centcom does not seek escalation but remains positioned and ready to protect American forces,” the statement added.
