“Xi says 'ready to work' with Trump to open new chapter in US-China relations The Chinese Foreign Ministry has released a readout of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and his counterpart Xi Jinping. President Xi said that he stands "ready to work" with Trump to open a new chapter in US-China relations. The two major world leaders agreed to frame their ties as "constructive, strategic and stable" in a new arrangement that will guide their relationship for the next three years and beyond. "The essence of China-US economic and trade relations is mutual benefit and win-win cooperation", Xi said, adding that China’s door to US businesses will only open wider. The Chinese president also urged for improved communication between the Beijing and Washington militaries, as well as expanded "cooperation in areas such as trade, health, agriculture, tourism, culture, and law enforcement". Meanwhile, Xi indicated that Taiwan is the most important point in Chine-US relations, saying: "If handled well, bilateral relations can maintain overall stability. If handled poorly, the two countries will clash or even clash, pushing the entire China-US relationship into a very dangerous situation." The two leaders also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, the Ukraine crisis, and the Korean Peninsula.
