Associate Professor Zhang Huangwei earns 2026 Hiroshi Tsuji Early Career Researcher Award
Associate Professor Zhang Huangwei from the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Design and Engineering at NUS has won the 2026 Hiroshi Tsuji Early Career Researcher Award. Jointly sponsored by Elsevier and The Combustion Institute, the Hiroshi Tsuji Early Career Researcher Award honours outstanding researchers who have pushed the frontiers of a specific field of research in fundamental or applied combustion science. Annually, the award and prize of US$10,000 is presented to early career researchers who are within four to ten years of completing a doctoral degree or equivalent. Assoc Prof Zhang’s research encompasses combustion, engine and fuels. Using a comprehensive approach that combines theoretical, numerical, and experimental methods, his work strives to advance the understanding of combustion physics, energy system safety and fuel performance. Currently, he leads and is involved in major projects funded by Singapore’s Low-Carbon Energy Research Programme and the National Research Foundation Decarb Programme, and also serves on international combustion boards and editorial teams.
