“KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 — A local man suspected of being involved in an armed robbery and theft of a Toyota Fortuner at Bulatan Time Square, Jalan Cina, in Miri, Sarawak, was arrested in less than 24 hours. In the 9.15am incident on Sunday, a woman and her child were inside a vehicle waiting when they were approached by two unknown men, according to a report published in Berita Harian . The suspects then acted aggressively, with one of them allegedly holding a knife to the child’s neck while the other threatened the woman with a similar weapon. Both suspects then drove off with the vehicle before abandoning the victims at the Miri Park area. Miri district police chief Asst Comm Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the victim also lost RM600 in cash, with total losses estimated at RM170,600. He said police acted on information and initial investigations, leading to the arrest of a 50-year-old local man near the Time Square area on the same day. Checks found that the suspect had prior criminal records involving robbery, vehicle theft and drug-related offences. Police also recovered the stolen Toyota Fortuner at a parking area of a supermarket in Miri. The suspect has been remanded for six days until May 24 to assist investigations, including efforts to track down a second suspect who remains at large.
